We choose to develop natural fiber textiles: cotton, organic cotton, linen, silk and wool in khadi or other handloom, powerloom and autoloom weave options. Some of our dyes and print inks are developed from natural sources. As such the textiles that we use will last very well when care is taken during laundering.
Shrinkage: Natural fibers shrink when machine washed and dried. It is best to wash many natural fiber textiles by hand in cold water with mild detergent, dry them by rolling them in a towel to extract moisture and then lay them flat or drape them over a clothes line. Ironing natural fibers on the appropriate setting: cotton, wool, linen is fine.
Color-bleeding: Natural dyes may bleed when washed. Naturally-dyed textiles should be washed separately or with alike colors. Some natural dyes such as indigo are expected to bleed over time and may lighten in color as the dye bleeds off the textile. To help set natural dyes you can treat your item for one hour by submerging it in a basin of cold water with one cup of white vinegar and 1 tbsp of dissolved salt. After treatment, follow the directions above for hand-washing your item.
